What's Good About This? by Bliss Wood

Bliss Wood
Oh my goodness ... What’s good about this? This statement has brought such insight to me for many years. While I was living in Denver with one of my best friends, I was complaining about something to which he asked me the simple question, “What’s good about this?” While I cannot even remember what the problem was at the time, I do remember the profound impact his question had on me. It was as if cold water had been thrown in my face on a hot day.

What’s good about this? ... immediately stopped my negative thinking and gave my brain the new task of actually FINDING something good about my situation! In that moment, I stopped complaining and began to find the good in the problem.

I’m not saying that we must not look at the reality of our situations, but inevitably, there is a positive aspect to each situation and when we can find that, it gives us a more balanced approach to our particular dilemma. It is true, the subconscious mind will do EXACTLY what you intend. Think about it, if you keep telling yourself, “I can’t” or “I’m broke,” or “I’ll never find true love,” what do you get? If you’re like me, you have experienced some of these scenarios in your past. It’s “stinkin’ thinkin’” as a friend of mine says. We have allowed our thoughts to permeate our subconscious mind to give us the negativity we are dwelling upon. By asking ourselves, “What’s GOOD” about something, we redirect our thinking to find goodness and ultimately, success.

Try a little experiment. The next time you find yourself in a negative situation, ask yourself, “What’s good about this?” and see if what your subconscious comes up with. You might just be surprised at your ability to come to a happy, productive and abundant outcome!  May you be happy ...

May you be peaceful ...
May you be healthy ...
May you know you are divine!
Namaste~ Bliss

Marjie Lends Painting Talents to Help Out in the Nashville Build on Extreme Makeover - Home Edition

The Nashville Build episode of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” now has an official airdate of Sunday, November 14, at 7:00 p.m. Central.   The show will be preceded by a one hour “Behind the Scenes” special to air on WKRN News 2 at 6:00 p.m. The show chronicles the rebuilding of Lighthouse Preschool, which was completely demolished during the historic flood that created so much devastation throughout the city of Nashville in early May.   Here are a few "build stats": It took 50,400 man hours to build. It features 2,000 SF of Luxury Vinyl Tile, 3600 SF of cork laminate, and 1560 LF of cove base, 150 Yards of carpet tile.]

**From Marjie:

Hi Friends and Family!

I just wanted to let you all know to check out Extreme Home Makeover's show Sunday, which will feature an incredibly moving story about the Sweatt family, and Nashville's Lighthouse Christian Pre-School, called the "Nashville Build" (or REBUILD!)

It was completed mid-September, and I was fortunate to be a part of painting for 3 projects at the build site with other local artists! You all probably remember the t.v. footage of part of the school (a building) floating down flooded Highway 24 in May 2010's flood in Nashville? It's all rebuilt now thanks to the show & THOUSANDS of local volunteers and companies who gave of their time, materials, and MANY talents. Carpenters, landscapers, electricians, plumbers, YOU NAME IT, people volunteered!

This community really came together for this after the flood! Including in the mix was LeAnn Rimes, who stopped in Art World to paint with us for about an hour among other local musicians. The result of this 'build' is probably THE COOLEST PRE-SCHOOL IN EXISTENCE! THOSE SWEET LIL KIDS WILL LOOOOOOOOVE IT! AND WE KNOW YOU WILL TOO! I want to go back to pre-school now myself after seeing that finished school! :))

The area we painted in was "Art World" and the pace for us was FAST FAST FAST and HOT HOT HOT! While inside tents to keep it secret, I painted structures for 2 of the 4 classrooms, and if you watch the show, the first project I painted was a humungous RED piece of fruit (which for now remains nameless!), and is the doorway into a GROCERY STORE, which I painted with another local muralist (Donna, who has done murals in all of Dolly Parton's homes, studio, and tourbus. Great artist, sweet & talented!

For the other classroom, I helped paint a BIG RED BARN, which I chose to paint because I'm from Iowa and I actually LOVE red barns (ha!), and paint them in my canvas paintings too sometimes. It was so fun, AND EXTREMELY HOT. PHSHEW! Did I tell you it was HOT? MAJOR MAJOR HEATWAVE. It's ok though, it was for a great cause & we enjoyed it so much and the people we met BUT PLEASE DO NOT EXPECT US TO LOOK PRETTY on the show just b/c it's t.v.. (haha!) We were sweating buckets! It was worth it all! Great way to help the great town of Nashville recover after the flood.

Hope you enjoy the show, as much as all of the volunteers enjoyed working, helping, donating, and meeting some amazingly nice and fun people! You're going to love the lil pre-schoolers!

What a good thing Extreme Makeover - Home Edition did for Nashville and helped to bring so many people together to help.

Let me know what you think of the show! Enjoy! :)

Thanks,
Marjie Parsons
